Moss phlox below Mt Fuji

What you’ll see at Fuji Motosuko Resort

Fuji Motosuko Resort fills large grounds at the foot of Mt Fuji with shibazakura (moss phlox). The organisers call it one of the largest displays in the Tokyo region1.

About 60 minutes to walk the grounds7

  • Varieties: six1 kinds of shibazakura.
  • Plant count: Yamanashi’s official tourism site gives 500,000 in its main description and 800,0008 further down the same page.
  • Time on site: allow about 60 minutes7 to walk around the grounds, though the venue says this varies from person to person.

The venue is at Motosu 212, Fujikawaguchiko9, by Lake Motosuko (Lake Motosu). Of the Fuji Five Lakes (Kawaguchi, Yamanaka, Sai, Shoji and Motosu10), Lake Motosuko is the furthest out11.

Shibazakura Liner

How do you get there from Kawaguchiko Station?

Take the Shibazakura Liner from bus stand 712 at Kawaguchiko Station: it runs roughly every hour during the festival and takes about 40 minutes4.

About 40 minutes by bus4

  1. Tokyo to Kawaguchiko Station

Express buses from Shinjuku take about 1 hour 45 minutes; the train to Kawaguchiko Station on the Fujikyu Line takes about 2 hours 10 minutes.

  2. Find the Liner stop

The Shibazakura Liner leaves from bus stand 7 at Kawaguchiko Station.

  3. Ride to the venue

The bus runs roughly every hour during the festival, takes about 40 minutes and makes no stops on the way.

  4. Head back

Leave some slack: buses may be delayed by road conditions around the venue.

The Liner doesn’t stop at any bus stops along the way13. The Blue Line sightseeing bus also goes on to Lake Shoji, Lake Motosu and the festival venue14. For the Tokyo leg in detail, see Shinjuku to Kawaguchiko by bus or train.

Before you set off

Access, food and dogs at the venue

The venue has step-free features, but bring what you need. Here’s what the facts cover:

  • Wheelchair users: Yamanashi’s tourism site lists wheelchair slopes, step-free access, wheelchair parking, wheelchair-accessible toilets, an AED and assistance dogs welcome8.
  • Wheelchairs: the venue does not lend them7, so bring your own.
  • Food: you may bring your own food and drink7.

Bringing a dog

  • Size: only small and medium-sized dogs up to 50 cm tall at the shoulder7.
  • Golden Week: dogs must be in a cage, cart or sling; at other times they may enter on a lead7.
  • Crowded days: you may be asked to put your dog in a cart or cage7.
  • Café: pet visitors may use only the terrace seats, where dogs may come out of their cages or carts7.

Round out the day

Nearby places to add to your day

The Liner runs straight between the station and the venue, so you’ll fit other stops in from Kawaguchiko itself. Places with their own pages:

Coming from Tokyo for a single day? The day trip guide sets out a full plan around the lake. If you’d rather someone else handled the transport, this guided Tokyo day tour stops at Oishi Park and Lake Kawaguchi, though not at the festival itself.
