Lake Kawaguchi is the easiest of the Fuji Five Lakes to reach, and the most touristic5. Most visitors come for views of Mount Fuji, especially from Lake Kawaguchi5. This page sorts the tours you can book by type, price and what the price leaves out.
Forest, bus or private car
Tours here fall into a few clear groups: guided walks in Aokigahara forest, day bus tours from Tokyo, and private cars that start at the lake or at your Tokyo hotel.

Prices are per person unless the table says per group. Ratings for the bookable tours sit on the tour cards further down.
Match the tour to your base
Choose by where you sleep: from Tokyo, a day bus tour does the driving; staying by the lake, a forest walk or a private driver from Kawaguchiko starts on your doorstep.
On the Hato Bus day you get about 70 minutes at Arakurayama Sengen Shrine and about 20 minutes4 at Oishi Park. That’s a sightseeing pace, not a hiking one.
Still deciding between this lake and Hakone? Hakone’s tourism association calls it the closest tourist destination to central Tokyo7; weigh up Kawaguchiko or Hakone for a Fuji trip before you book.
Sea of Trees
The cheapest guided tour on this page is the Aokigahara Jukai nature guide tour: 1 hour, and you can join on the day without a reservation1.
Join on the day, no booking1
The Aokigahara nature guide tour costs ¥5001 (about US$3) (checked October 2026) per person on the Yamanashi tourism site. The town’s own site lists ¥700 (about US$4), with a minimum of 28, so bring enough cash for the higher figure.
Scheduled tours leave from Saiko Nature Center; gather 15 minutes1 before the start time.
For a reserved tour, book by fax at least 2 days before8. Saiko Nature Center’s phone number is 0555-82-3111, at Saiko 20688, Fujikawaguchiko-machi.
Rather walk on your own? Designated trails lead to Narusawa Ice Cave and Fugaku Wind Cave9. The Green Line bus loops around Lake Saiko and through Aokigahara Jukai Forest10:
More on the forest itself: Aokigahara trails, caves and access.
From Tokyo or on the water
Most bookable Mt Fuji day tours leave from Tokyo and stop at Oishi Park on Lake Kawaguchi. The cards show each tour’s price, length and rating as Klook, Viator and GetYourGuide list them.

Other ways onto the lake or round it:
Prefer to go without a tour? Highway buses from Shinjuku reach Kawaguchiko Station in about 1 hour 45 minutes13; see Tokyo to Fuji Five Lakes travel. Once there, Kawaguchiko attractions covers what to see.
Starting at the lake
Yes. Private tours start in Kawaguchiko itself, so you skip the bus from Tokyo and the early start that comes with it.
Pickup anywhere in the Kawaguchiko area3
Kawaguchiko.net’s half-day private tour doesn’t run from December through February3. Viator sells more private options starting at the lake, shown below.

Yen, as operators list them
Here’s every yen price on this page side by side, from a forest walk to a private car, as the operators list them.
Private half-day: ¥25,000 per group3
Prices as each operator or official site lists them, in yen. The Aokigahara scheduled tour figures come from official sites that disagree.
Japan City Tour’s private day isn’t on the ladder because it’s priced in dollars. On the Appare boat, children pay ¥500 (about US$3) and preschool children ride free14.
Budget for extras
Entrance fees are the usual extra: neither private tour covers them.
